So I went yesterday to see the 39 Steps with a friend. I went to this thread for suggestions for dinner beforehand. Out of six she chose Ipanema of all places! I got to admit it was pretty good. She's not an adventurous eater and it was her first time eating Brazilian food. However, she really liked her dish. I got the monkfish, and it was a little overcooked (I just think that's the way it is done?). But the flavor in the sauce was fantastic. That with unlimited rice and beans and excellent service made it a good choice. I know Adam has been pushing this place for years, but I got to go with his rec. It's definitely worth the try even though it's a bit pricey. Thanks, Adam. I liked it but the winner for me surprisingly was the beef. It reminded me of the Uber-tender meat you get in a stew you cook for 10 hours, in a nice gravy made of the drippings. Now that I've raised it up so much, you'll probably not like it as much.
