stick with the happy hour specials...
regular drinks are not too happy

the bali 76 is pretty good...very fruity
the something daquery tastes very strong...

but they r both made pretty well

and honestly its just a really nice place on the inside...3 floors..huge
ive been there a million times for friends bdays...yesterday was my first time for happy hour but that wouldnt really count cuz it was a one yr anniversary party so the average age of people was about 45 lol

either way...doesnt hurt to try it

I've been eyeing Pranna for some time....but as you say, it looks so damn pretentious from the outside--especially on the weekends with the ropes, bouncers with ear pieces, long lines etc... that it has kept me far away (and by far away, I mean across the street in my apartment). I see their happy hr billboard specials outside the place every morning, but I've never been tempted....but perhaps this would be a good place to take my coworkers--rather than our usual go to of Chef 28 (28th btwn Mad and Park)....

yeah its a full pint....i think...i don thtink they would jip you at such a place.
i duno how big the satay sampler is though..could be small but for 5$ not bad getting 2. my friend said teh beer/naan was realllly good...they have a few taps...i forget which beers.

its very much a boujey pretentious party scene but my friends uncle is the owner so when they opened up i went with him and he ordered MADDD food...lamb sliders(the best) satay platter some other nonsense..and it was all comped and all very good...must say its a very good spot to take a girl or even just go with a friend to splurge on a nice dinner..

sammy, those look like two good options--the rest of the place seems to be a pretentious party scene. Good beer options too. Although I want to make sure--their draft beer is a full pint, right? (I've been to a couple of places where the $6 draft is served in a smaller skinny glass--BS!!)

OTOH, you can still get pitchers at Rudy's for $7/9 (as I did the other day). And they have FREE appetizers of ground meat satay off the stick, served in a North American bread wrapper, with your choice of sauces applied by the server.)

I had the combo (lamb and chicken) which was $6. My next streetmeat field trip will definitely be Little Morocco, but I had to hit up Dos Toros tacqueria to check it out first. I'll admit, I tend to like the local (and evil?) 6th-Ave Rafiqi's--they put together a hefty platter, lamb isn't cut into tiny bits, generally well-prepared streetmeat.

I can't attest to the daytime lamb....I only get that from the nightcart. As I said, the chicken recipe seems to have been altered slightly in the last couple of weeks, so I've been avoiding it. Their hot sauce is nothing to write home about either--at least compared to 53rd (its only redeeming quality) or Little Morrocco (whose platter is overall better than 28th st). I thought it was 4.99 for chicken over rice with a soda? did they discontinue the special? Overall, it really depends on who is working....They have a constant changing of the guard it seems during the day, so sometimes it's better than others. Hey, at least now you know I'm not totally crazy (only a little crazy...)

OK, this truk does actually exist. Could not have missed it before--it really wasn't there. Had a combo over yellow rice. Not bad, but not great. Lamb was a bit tastier, but overchopped into little bits. Chicken could've been cooked a bit better. I asked for extra hot sauce, and it was good but not killer. I'd say this is a slightly above-average streetmeat meal. I'll have to give the night truck a try.

Oh yeah--I also don't like the pricing of $6 with a 'free' soda. I'd rather pay $5 and no soda, thank you.

I don't know 1849. I used to go to desmonds, but I acted "inappropriately" a while back, so I've avoided it.. Too much messiness with drunken female friends, drunken bar tenders hitting on them etc.

I tend to go to Chef 28 with co-workers (28th between madison and park) but the last time I went there, I started urging the russian bar tender to sing songs...I also ran into an old neighbor 3 times, and each time, apparently, it was as if I hadn't seen him the other times....this, according to my coworkers and girlfriend.

My main haunt is Mccormacks----they know me well there. 3rd ave and 26th. I am definitely up for some happy hour time!

Rodeo Bar does have free peanuts, but AWFUL food....I was there back in the spring, and my brother and his g/f got food poisoning....I just thought the food sucked....

Goats, we should do a happy hour someday. At my firm, happy hour starts at noon (and at 11am on days that end in "day"), and often runs until the following morning. Any really good dives in your side of the 'hood? (Comparable to, say, 1849's $3 beers and 20-cent wings, or Rudy's, etc. Does Rodeo bar have a decent HH?)

I will also add that the daytime recipe for chicken seems to change periodically. Sometimes it is curry chicken, which as you know, I am not a big fan of...Other times, it has an odd amazing flavor that is not curry I don't think. It is kind of nutty and spicy. Recently, it has been curry, as the guy who was serving me seems to be gone, so I've taken a break until the smell changes as I walk by....

@ No Pickles: Nope, Chicken on a hero is from the 28th st. cart. Not sure if they have heros at Little Morocco, though it'd be cool if they did!

@ Stevenp: We are neighbors! And yes, if you walk up madison, the truck is on the east side of the street, usually between 27th and 28th. However, sometimes later in the day during weekdays (after 4 or 5 but before 6), it is forced to move onto 28th between madison and park. It should def. be there....

As to which is better, I would say the daytime cart is better for chikcen on a hero. Not sure if they have hero in the nightime cart. However, at night, I always go lamb over rice and salad,or falafal platter/sandwich, both of which are ok-- (sadly, the lamb is not as good as little morocco since they never crisp it enough).
