I see you signed up in order to make a nonsensical comment on a very old thread. Are you saying you work equidistant from the space they occupied a year ago for a short period of time, and their normal spot?

It is in fact La Baguette's remains. I agree, great falafel, but I don't think I ever got one where my order wasn't wrong. So I stopped going.

Is that the cart that the La Baguette truck downgraded to in response to the food truck ban? If so, I agree - very good falafel.

I've seen this cart, they just got a new sign. I always noticed that their street meat dishes are under $5 though.

Noticed a new cart on 6th Ave in Midtown yesterday, Joe's Kitchen.
Or was it always there and I never noticed, or displaced from his usual location?
It was in the mid 40s, don't remember where (good thing I don't report for midtown lunch.com, sheesh)
He was on the south-east corner on 6th avenue, on one of the streets near Kim's Aunt.

I did a search here, and didn't find Joe's Kitchen Cart listed.

It looked like the usual street offerings (hot dog), but I noticed $6 "baked ziti" and another pasta dish offering (was it spaghetti and meatballs?). There were other different offerings, but I was in a rush, so didn't take good notice.

Not gonna make anyone's day, but thought I would mention, in case a luncher has a hankering for cheap baked ziti or wants to try a new cart today.

(Continued)

The first time, I ordered a chicken/falafel over rice platter. Honestly, the chicken was nothing to write home (or ML) about and the hot sauce seemed a little weak (disclaimer: I like really, really hot hot sauces). It was only the falafel that brought me back there for lunch today.

This time, I got the falafel gyro ($4). The bread was your standard halal cart pita. The falafel was slightly crushed to fit in the pita, and was packed with lettuce, tomato, eggplant (awesome), and pickles (even better). For sauces, I got a standard amount of white sauce with at least a double portion of hot sauce. I wouldn't say it was spicy (see disclaimer above), but I thought the combination of sauces worked perfectly with the rest of the sandwich. For $4, it might be my favorite cheap cart lunch in the area(now that Little Morocco is indefinitely gone).

A few other random notes:

-The guy who runs the place is an incredibly friendly Egyptian man
-I'm not sure if the eggplant/pickles were standard, or if he just threw those on after I mentioned I was of Middle Eastern descent and spoke a little (very basic) Arabic to him. Either way, I doubt he would refuse to add them if asked
-I haven't tried the lamb, but it looks like standard gyro meat. However, I saw him serve it today, and it looks like he does a good job of properly browning the outside. I will order this in the near future (with the falafel, of course)

Has anyone tried the falafel from the cart on the SE corner of 40th/broadway before (the one with the giant "Deep Throat" umbrellas above it)? I've had their falafel twice in the last month, and both time I've found it so good I wonder why it never seems to get mentioned.

Both times I've ordered, he scooped out several balls of fresh falafel batter and fried them on the spot (note: most places simply reheat precooked falafel with a quick dip in hot oil). Both times, he apologized for the wait but insisted "the falafel must be fresh." I told him that no apology was necessary. The falafel came out with a perfect texture - very crunchy exterior and soft, moist interior. Most importantly, the flavor was off the charts. Easily 10x more flavor than the next best falafel I've had in midtown.

It's not traditional al pastor. it's just small chunks of pork with chili powder bbq sauce.

If anyone knows where i can get the real stuff, please share. i've been craving it since my last trip to mexico almost 2 years ago!
