Does anyone have any good leads on drinking (and maybe eating) activities this coming week for St P's Day? My boss is way cool, so I can have a whole day or 2 off for drinking, so any tips on morning imbibing events would be cool. Thought I'd ask here before checking out "other sources." I'm thinking green breakfast beer followed by streetmeat would be cool, with more beer for dessert....

Check out a video series I have on thecheapthriller.com called 'Carlo's Quest' where I search high and low for the best food and drink NYC has to offer. So far, I've taken on the challenges of the bloody mary, meatball sub and egg salad sango.

Do you know of any great places I missed or have suggestions for future episodes?

hmm, strange that 1849 wasn't there, ha.

btw, I had Blind Tiger wings for the first time on Saturday. They were awesome. First off they are grilled, so they have a nice char/smokiness. Great heat to the spice too. Not cheap though.

Waaaaaaayyyyy out of bounds for a Midtown Lunch, but I've been called to do my civic duty tomorrow in Brooklyn-- anyone got lunch suggestions around Borough Hall? I assume I won't get a *ton* of time for lunch, and you get extra gold stars if you remember that I don't eat meats!

"Awesome Buffalo Wings in NYC?" by stevenp

Are there any A+ buffalo wings in NYC? Scruffy Duffy's had them until they closed. Here are my grades for other wing places FYI:

1849: A; slightly breaded, but meaty with great sauce. @20 cents/ea, hard to beat

Blondies: B/B-; many people like these undercooked, too-oily wings with thin/boring sauce

Pluck U/Atomic: B; standard 'chain' wings, not meaty enough and boring sauce, despite levels of heat

Dinosaur: A/A+ ('non-Buffalo' category); very meaty, awesome bbq flavor, good to the last bite.

Croxley's: B/B+; meaty wings but undercooked; cheap but boring.

Dallas BBQ: B; breaded, but huge whole wings--don't let them get cold.

Off the Wagon, Dukes: B/B-; standard sub-par bar wings

So, an better wings to try? (Don't try to convince me that Blondies wings are great-I have taste buds!)

Any takeout worth checking out? Normally I'd go up to Grand Sichuan but I'm lazy in the slush today and am unlikely to have time to sit down anyway. Suggestions welcome (even quick sit-down ones).

So I had never heard of this before Ruth Reichl mentioned it in her profile today... and Lunch'er "TC" posted this link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chai_tow_kway

That looks amazing. I've had fried turnip/daikon cakes at dim sum, but never sauteed with eggs and soy sauce. I've gotta have this. Anybody know where to get a good version of this in NYC? (In Midtown would be great, but I won't hold my breath.)
