"Omar is Back! Little Morocco Lives!" by Kopper

Well it seems the Gods of Street Meat have looked upon we sorry souls of Midtown West kindly. As a longtime Little Morocco regular, Omar had my mobile as I would sometimes order specials ahead of time to pick up. Well, he just called me after not having heard from him for almost a year. "Justin, I'm back on 39th st," was the greeting and he didn't need to say who he was when I heard that.

I asked if this is a temporary gig and he said no, it is long term. It seems LA was not the easiest place to start a Street Meat cart and he has returned to more familiar, if not warmer, climes.

I will be heading down for a late lunch today so I haven't seen what the cart looks like, but look closely and if it is Omar manning the grill, you would do well to place an order.

I like to do a medium chicken tikka + a double from Trini Paki Boys when I'm really starving. And I'm not sure if they still offer it, but I thought the lunch special at Margon's (a cuban and a side of red beans and rice) was, at nine measly dollars, the best deal in the city.

So what's your best combo? I think this question could get some great responses. It can be a combo offered by a vendor or just something you put together yourself. Whaddaya got?

The new and improved plaza food hall opened today.

No.7 Sub
Luke's Lobster
William Greenberg (woo hoo Black & White Cookies)
Billy Bakery
Lady M
and about 10 others...

I went by right at noon and there were people but definitely no "crowd" yet. Most people seemed to be going for Luke's but I made a beeline for No. 7 Sub. Got the Broccoli sub (Broccoli, Lychee Muchim, Ricotta Salata, Pine Nuts $9 - $9.80 with tax) which was awesomely good.

Not sure how much of it will prove to be in the "true midtown lunch" category...but its still an exciting
addition.

Anyone else go? Any other recommendations?

This place was great, came from Texas and wanted some street meat. Really nice guy was running it, was a pleasure to talk to.

Food:

You get what you're expecting, but out of all the vendors i got a really large portion and it was beyond delicious. I'm no foodie, but try this and you will be happy.

Thanks!

Long time lurker, first time poster. I live in Hell's Kitchen but have working in Jersey City for the past few months. I've got some downtime between consulting assignments so I figured I'd try some of the new places in the neighborhood.

Stopped by The Claw today to grab lunch. Took a look at the menu and everything seafood was out of Midtown Lunch price range. I got the Lobster Mac & Cheese to go for $12.

It was a small portion in an approximately 4" x 3" x 1.5" container. The pasta was cooked al dente and it came with a decent amount of lobster (about 10-12 crouton-sized pieces). Sauce was flavorful, but not overpowering.

All in all, a decent lunch, but too small and expensive for the daily rotation. They are working on a happy hour, but beer and wine are currently $7-$12.

Construction worker working in the space at 8 West 40th Street (next to HSBC and Pergola)says LT Burger is coming there.

When googled, I found one other location:

LTBurger.com located in Sag Harbor, NY.

Prices look steep but maybe they will adjust to be midtown competitive and not Hamptons competitive.

A twinkie milkshake sounds interesting :)

"$3.99 street meat price war in front of Bellevue Hospital" by sansaidan

There's a price war going on between 2 street meat vendors in front of Bellevue Hospital. It's a little out of bounds for ML's at 1st Ave and 27th St. but it's only $3.99 for chicken/rice. One of the vendors is an old, established cart. The other is a Rafiqi's cart that came and parked next to him. The older cart has marinated, tasty chicken on yellow, basmatic rice but there wasn't much chicken. Rafiqi's has bland, whitish chicken on brownish, regular rice but there was a lot of chicken. I had a bad experience previously with another Rafiqi's where my chicken was dry, white meat. This Rafiqi cart seems to have boiled the chicken before throwing it on the grill. It needed a healthy dose of hot sauce for flavor. Ur choice- Copious amount of bland chicken or less amount of flavorful chicken?

I'll start this post by saying that I have no expectations that I'm going to convert anyone to healthful eating. If these words shkeeve you out: low-sodium; low-fat; organic; vegetables; nutrition; etc..then move along, there's nothing here for you.

Anyone still reading? If so, Dig Inn is absolutely fantastic. I was a long, long time fan of The Pump (the predecessor or Dig Inn) so I was all on board with the reincarnation. I love everything about this place. It's amazing what they do while sticking to their mission (http://bit.ly/KCUqfX). Everything is so fresh and so tasty, and made with such high-quality ingredients, I'm amazed that it's not more expensive. Bottom line: we need more restaurants that offer fresh, nutritional, tasty food at a reasonable price.

This is an actual pizza place, and they want to compete with the 99 cent pizza. I think Sicilians are $2 (down from 3) and they have some kind of coupon by the counter for 20% off an order.
