Zaitzeff’s Turkey Burger Is Quality, If You Can Swallow The Price Tag

Despite Zaitzeff being a mere two blocks from my office, I have never stepped inside the place, partly because it had already been reviewed long ago on this site, and because of the prices. I mean, I like a good burger, but is it worth paying nearly (or more than) $10 for just a burger and no fries? It was time to find out, and I picked the turkey burger as my guinea pig.

Join Construction Workers, High School Students At Charlys For A Cheese Steak

P1030911

There are many options for a cheese steak in the Financial District: Delis, street meat carts, the Dominic’s Truck on Whitehall St. and the occasional visit from the Phil’s Steaks truck. We’ll also eventually be getting a location of Shorty’s cheese steaks down on Pearl St.

One place we’ve never checked out, but that I’ve always been curious about it Charly’s which is on Trinity Place (at Cedar St.) and caters to every guilty pleasure food you might want, from pizza to burgers to chicken wings. The thing that many of the dudes and construction workers that throng the place, along with students from nearby high schools, at lunch time is a cheese steak. Would it be any better than the deli variety?

Atomic Wings Provides You With Saucy Poultry Without Stepping In A Sports Bar

Did you eat your weight in chicken wings during the Super Bowl last weekend and have a craving for more? That may just be me, but if you don’t want to have to go into a bar like Mudville 9 to get your fix, you could head to the location of the Atomic Wings chain near City Hall which is a subterranean source of sauced chicken on Broadway (btw. Duane & Thomas). When I saw it listed in one of those “best wings of NYC” lists, I figured it was worth a visit. Read more »

fried chicken cart

One thing the city doesn’t have nearly enough of are carts selling fried foods. Yes, there are a few in Chinatown selling things like $1 chicken legs or fish balls on sticks, but that’s only useful if you work near Chinatown. What if you want a fried chicken fix but don’t want to trek to Popeye’s or pay the prices for the delicious, organic variety from Dirty Bird To Go? I introduce to you the Fried Chicken & More cart. Beware The Rotisserie Chicken At The FiDi’s New Roll And Go

Many of you who read this site do so to find lunches that are both cheap and tasty, so consider my assessment of Roll and Go‘s rotisserie chicken at its new location on Fulton St. (btw. William & Dutch) as a public service announcement: Your $2.75 can be better spent elsewhere. Read more »

GRK Confirms That Putting Turkey On A Spit Is An Excellent Idea

Is it just me or did Thanksgiving sneak up on anyone else? I saw on Twitter that GRK on Fulton St. (btw. Nassau & William) was serving turkey gyro with cranberry tzatziki as a pre-Thanksgiving special and then I realized the holiday is next week. On my first day back to work in the Financial District since hurricane Sandy mucked things up, I headed over to see what happens when you put turkey on a rotating spit and pair it with cranberry-spiked Greek yogurt. (It turns out that magical, crispy things happen).

Wafels & Dinges’ Corn Waffle With Chili Makes A Good Light Lunch

Last week’s cooler weather brought out the sweaters and also a lot of hearty seasonal specials at trucks and other lunch spots. Wafels & Dinges took the opportunity to add to its savory side with the winter addition of the corn waffle with either meat or vegetable chili along with some toppings. But would this $7 concoction be more of a lunch than one of their regular sweet waffle concoctions?
