PROFILE: Dowtown Lunch’er “Gigi”

As it customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, Gigi

Name: Gigi

Age: 28 years young

Occupation: Director of a non-profit

Where do you work?: Broadway and Pine (same office building as Kevin)

Favorite Kind of Food: Chinese, of course.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Don’t really have one; it’s more about my mood dictating my preference…

Favorite Lunch(es) Downtown: Well, I’d have to go with Chinatown…

Vanessa’s on Eldridge St. has the best dumplings and golden pancake sandwiches. As far as I’m concerned, New Malaysia in the arcade between Elizabeth and Bowery St., has the best hot and sour soup around. Since I have the chance, I have to give a shout out to Sam’s Falafel cart by work. Always good – even though the line can look intimidating.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often: Ashby’s – because its in the lobby of the building

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: I ate at Kiva Cafe with Kevin last week!

Dream job location (anywhere in the world), purely for lunch purposes, and why: Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. There’s a few blocks of street food vendors ranging from anything that you can think of on a stick, curry, sandwiches, rice, noodles, and desserts for super cheap (and of course supergood). To make it better, there are also mid-upper range restaurants right around the corner – sushi, American, Italian. To sum it up: lots of variety for every price range. You can’t beat that.

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers?: Recommendations for good Mexican for lunch, and no, Chipotle doesn’t count!

Suggestions? Put ’em in the comments. And as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email us at downtownnyc@midtownlunch.com.

  • TAJIN! There was a downtown lunch friday post a few months ago on tajin! I work near chinatown and that same day I placed an order ($30 minimum for delivery taht far) and was so delighted to get hearty, cheap and pretty authentic mexican food that is everything Chipotle TRIES (and fails) to be!
    Tajin is awesome!
