‘wichcraft Opens Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Kiosk in Bryant Park

The long-standing ‘wichcraft kiosks in Bryant Park recently got a new outpost, an ice cream kiosk (40th btw 5+6th) close to the carousel. As far as I know, this is actually the first ‘wichcraft foray into ice cream, and they’ve decided to source their ice cream from Van Leeuwen! This actually makes a lot of sense knowing that ‘wichcraft likes to use organic and local products when available. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I headed over to the kiosk, but I ended up finding one of the cheapest ice cream treats around.

Single and double scoops are $4 and $7 respectively, with ice cream floats being $6.50. But the best part of the menu is at the bottom. They’ve recreated ‘wichcraft’s Cream’wich as an Ice Cream’wich. The flavors are tricky to understand–you can get vanilla or strawberry ice cream sandwiched between specific cookies in pre-made packages. I chose vanilla in between peanut butter cookies since that’s my favorite of the cream’wiches. At $4.25, it’s a perfectly priced lunchtime dessert. Despite coming from a freezer, the cookies were crumbly and had great flavor. I loved the added crunch from the salt on top. Once the ice cream warmed up a bit, it was creamy and delicious. The size is great too–once it starts melting, there are only a few bites left.

Free Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Alert?

According to Grub Street starting at Noon today the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck will be driving around Manhattan today giving away free ice cream to anybody who has signed up to be a member of Gilt City (whatever that is.) Van Leeuwen has had trouble parking here in the past, so there’s no guarantee they’ll show up in Midtown at all- but just in case, we’ve added Gilt City to our Twitter Tracker for the day so you can follow the trail of free ice cream. Also on the ML Twitter Tracker, Joyride is on 52nd, Cravings is on 53rd, Eddie’s Pizza Truck is on 52nd, Schnitzel & Things is on 52nd, Wafels & Dinges is on 48th, QBA Kitchen will try to park on 44th, and Quick Stop Kosher is in front of B&H.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream & Espresso in Midtown Today

Ben Van Leeuwen checks in this morning to let us know that their new Ice Cream & Espresso Truck will be parked on 46 & 6th today. “We are serving housemade baked goods, Intelligentsia coffee & of course Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream. From now until at least 6pm.”

Remember when the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Truck came to Midtown for one day last October? That didn’t last long. It took them almost a year to try again… but the result ended up being the same. I guess the Mister Softee trucks haven’t completely left for the season yet. *Sigh* Just another day in Midtown…

At Lunch Now: Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Truck Makes its Midtown Debut!

I guess they couldn’t stand being the only dessert Vendy Award nominee without a regular Midtown spot… the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Truck is parked on the NE corner of 57th st and 5th Ave right now. Their other truck is still in its regular spot in Soho, but they hope to park this second truck in Midtown at least a few days a week. We’ll see how it goes…

They’ll be at this spot until 4pm, and then will probably move somewhere else. (I’ll keep you updated on this post if they move today.)
