Super Dumpling Pops Up in the Old Prince Grill Space

Super Dumpling

A little over a year ago we reported that Prince Grill (formerly known as Prince Deli) had moved to a new location (45th btw 2nd+3rd). We were pretty happy that we would still get the chance to eat their famous falafel, though somehow along the way they closed. But then recently as I was walking back to work after scoring some ramps at the Dag Hammarskjold farmers market on 47th and 2nd, I noticed that Super Dumpling has opened for business. Well, I’m always down for dumplings…

Sarah’s Kitchen To Open This Thursday

Sarah's Kitchen
A little over a month ago we brought you news that the sign went up for Sarah’s Kitchen (it took over the old Pinnacle Bagel & Deli space on 3rd btw 45th+46th). Though I have seen workers come and go, there were no signs as to when it was going to open. Then, finally, I saw it on the door: Sarah’s Kitchen is set to open this Thursday, April 12th. My coworker and I looked through the glass and saw what looked to be just another deli. Oh well, I still hope to find something delicious there.

696 Gourmet Deli Serves A Messy, Delicious Roast Beef Sandwich

696 Deli
I walk by 696 Gourmet Deli everyday, but never once did I think about going inside to get breakfast or lunch. I have looked at their lunch specials but only when I’m on my way to grab lunch from somewhere else. Then one day I found myself craving a sandwich. Not just any sandwich: a really messy, gut busting, nap required after eating sort of sandwich. I had thought about the crazy chicken sandwich I had at Previti that was as big as my head, but I wanted somewhere closer. While wandering around, I found myself checking out 696 Gourmet Deli and their lunch specials, and I ended up getting the roast beef sandwich ($6.50). So was it the messy gut busting sandwich I was craving for?

Hop Won And Jamaican Dutchy’s Curry Dishes Are Worth Trying

Hop Won Okay, I’m addicted to curry chicken. Ever since I had a pretty decent curry chicken over rice from the Fahima Halal cart, I’ve been on the look out for other curry chicken dishes. Even though I know I need to take a long walk over to the West side to try the curry chicken from Trini Paki Boys cart, I just haven’t done it yet. I’ve been too lazy to walk from 3rd Avenue to 6th, so instead I found a few worthy curry dishes on the East side to satisfy my curry craving. After Fahima, I tried a not so spicy curry chicken from NY Biryani Express Cart. Then, most recently, my quest took me to Hop Won, followed by Jamaican Dutchy. How did their curry dishes compare to what I have had so far? Let’s find out.

Steak And Egg Taco Is Another Win For The Eggs Travaganza Cart

Eggstravaganza Last time I ate at the Eggs Travaganza cart (which was also my first time) I really wanted the steak and egg taco. Sadly, by the time I got to the cart, they had already sold out of the tortillas to make tacos. I accepted their offer to make the steak and egg in a burrito form. While I had imagined the egg in the burrito to be at least visible, all I saw were steak and rice. I did find the burrito delicious, so the lack of eggs didn’t end up being a big deal.

On my second trip back to the cart, I made sure to go early (1 p.m.), and I was rewarded with the steak and egg taco ($4).

Like Curry but Not the Heat? Try NY Biryani Express Cart’s Chicken Curry

NY Biryani ExpressMy recent Fahima Halal Cart post sparked some debate in the comments over chicken curry. (For the record, I tried their curry chicken and thought that it was pretty good.) In the comments, it was clear that I had to trek over to the Trini Paki Boys cart (on 43rd & 6th) for a more delicious curry chicken (according to fellow Lunch’er EaterKnievel). Though I was more curious about this comment about a “baller chicken curry” found at the cart on 45th and 3rd Ave. I knew exactly which cart that was, and I chose the shorter walk to NY Biryani Express over the trek to 6th ave. Until now, I had only tried their chicken and rice, although I guess I should try their kati roll also. But first, the curry!

Tri Tip Grill’s Philly Buck is Good But Not Great

Tri Tip Grill When I think of anything food related that uses the word “Philly” I instantly think about the oh so delicious Philly cheesesteak. I’m not going into the debate over who makes the best one or what sort of cheese makes it more authentic but you have to agree that any sandwich with meat and cheese is going to be good.

So the other day I noticed the Philly Buck at Tri Tip Grill in Grand Central which had grilled onions, peppers and topped with melted provolone cheese. Ever since I had their Bacon Cheddar Buck, I’ve been wanting to go back and try a 6oz sandwich instead of the 4oz I had last time. Is the extra $1.50 worth it?

Spring Means There’s No Excuse For Not Lunching at the Eggs Travaganza Cart

Eggs Travaganza Cart I’m a little embarrassed to admit that as a lover of all egg dishes I still haven’t been to the Eggs Travaganza cart.  I know it’s not right, but in my defense it’s been pretty damn cold. So now that it’s full on Spring time, I have no more excuse to walk the two avenues eight blocks for some egg burrito action. When I found the cart on the corner of 52nd & Park Ave, it took me a while to go through the menu and it took me even longer to decide what to eat since everything sounded delicious. I was thinking maybe I’ll just grab a few tacos, steak and eggs naturally. Sadly they said they were out of tortillas for tacos but they could still make a steak and eggs burrito ($7). That to me sounded just fine.

Fahima Halal Cart Pops Up on 3rd Avenue With a Decent Curry Chicken

Fahima Halal Food It’s very rare for me to know exactly what I want to eat for lunch when I head out.  As a result I usually end up walking around and around until I finally get tired and give in to whatever is closest.  But on Monday I headed out knowing exactly what I wanted: street meat.  And not just any street meat- but Rafiqi’s, the only street meat near my office I had yet to try (not counting the taste at last year’s Street Meat Palooza that I remember for its olives.) I walked straight to the corner of 47th & 3rd Ave and was surprised to find that in place of the big red truck was the Fahima Halal cart. (Apparently I had missed this news about them moving from their spot on 45th btw. 6+7th!) Since I was there already I decided to get their chicken over rice. Then I was asked if I wanted the curry chicken. I love curry chicken so I said yes please!

Macaron Cafe Comes to 3rd Ave

IMG_2946

Midtown East fans of delicious and authentic macarons rejoice! Lunch’er Epcol spotted a new Macaron Cafe (the French theme cafe that serves better macarons than Bouchon Bakery according to Zach!) popping up on 3rd btw 46th+47th St. Along with their macarons, they will also be serving their surprisingly delicious sandwiches like the Siciliano (bressaola, capers, mozzarella, and tomatoes drizzled with olive oil). Though what I’m really looking forward is their daily lunch sandwich specials, especially their Tuesday sandwich special, the Croque Monsieur.  Thanks to Luncher “Epcol” for the tip.
