Alidoro Now Serves Hot Sandwiches But They Are Expensive

After trying the new paninis from Italian import Antico Noe, I was eager to re-visit the New York-grown Alidoro. I also recently learned that the company now offers a handful of hot toasted sandwiches at their Midtown location only.

Aside from their Nutella desert option, not a single hot sandwich came close to the ML budget of $10. These are all splurges and after tasting one of them, I can’t say it’s really worth it.

I wasn’t overly impressed the first time I visited here, but they were still new then and I had hoped by now they had worked out the kinks and I would have loved it as much as Andrea loved the original Soho location. After a confusing process to order and then pay (you have to wait in two separate lines), I got my sandwich. I picked the Enzo ($12), which consists of speck, artichoke, and provolone.

The sandwich was warm and the cheese began to melt, but I don’t think toasting it added much to the experience. The bread was great, but it wasn’t as toasty and melty as I was expecting. The ingredients were of quality, but together the sandwich was all rather bland and dry. It could have used some mustard or pickles or something. And the fact that it comes close to $15 when all is said and done means I still can’t get behind this as an exciting ML option.

Perhaps some of the other hot sandwich options are better or maybe with a different kind of bread. But unless you like standing in confusing lines and spending too much money in this area, Antico Noe is a better option. Just wish they had a location closer to Midtown West.
