That I will not deny! My rant was against national chains, not regional. I hit up In-N-Out when I'm out west, Portillo's in Chicago, Shake Shack in New York (although I was delighted to learn that SS now has an outpost in Nationals Park in DC), etc.

On various boards I have seen a lot of people from all over the world complain about American food and then I always see a ton of tourists in places such as McDonalds, Burger King, AppleBees, and etc. Like why? Why come here to eat fast food/chain restaurants? Besides, I feel that if you are going to go to a chain restaurant to go to one in NYC, they're awful. The better ones are in the south.

I was saddened the other night, when I finished a wonderful (and reasonably priced) meal at Don Antonio, and walked back through Times Square...people were lined up out the door at Sbarro and Famiglia.

What a shame.

Actually, Famous Dave's moved to a location that's even more visible to tourists, 42nd and 7th, which also happens to be across the street from Dallas BBQ

Now now, you know that a lot of people aren't keen to try new things, and opt for "safe" when traveling -- they know the Olive Garden in Times Square is exactly the same as the one in their Midwestern town, and they don't want to risk any ill effects brought on by new food. They aren't food tourists, where food is a major reason to visit another part of the country/world.

Except when you live somewhere that has no In-n-Out Burger, and visit a city that does. Because that is always my first stop when I go to the west coast.
