PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Ross”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Ross, a finance guy by day/DJ by night who’s still looking for a mind blowing breakfast in Midtown West.

Name: Ross

Age: 26

Occupation: Finance (day) / DJ (night)

Where in Midtown do you work? Markit, 40th & 8th Avenue, in the NY Times Building

Favorite Kind of Food: Mexican

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Cheap sushi

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Shorty’s (on 9th btw. 41+42nd) for their classic and Mozzarella Triangles, Potbelly’s wreck, Italian, and chicken Salad, Tabata Noodle (on 9th btw. 39+40th) for their shuo and miso ramen (spicy ramen is amazing as well), and Totto Ramen (on 52nd btw. 8+9th) for the Totto spicy Ramen and Totto miso ramen.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Potbelly’s & NYtimes Cafeteria

Places you have discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? El Sabroso (on 37th btw 7+8th) & Shamas Deli (on 38th btw. B’way+7th)

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Barcelona, went for a weekend in April 2011 and was blown away by the food there. Purely amazing and delicious.

Anything you’d like to ask the midtown lunch readers? Where is the best breakfast in Midtown West?? Have been unable to find anything mind boggling yet.

Got an answer for Ross? Put it in the comments. Want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate)? Email editor@midtownlunch.com.

  • Piccolo Cafe – which you’re right across the street from (40th and 8th) – have a good list of some pretty fantastic breakfast-egg sandwiches/wraps/panini. A bit expensive, but the food is excellent.

  • FREAK OF THE WEEK

There, now we can move on.

Best breakfast is probably Best Bagel & Coffee on W. 35th between 7th and 8th, but they only deliver up to 37th. D: If you walk up from Penn to the NYT building, it’s not far of a detour.

2nding Shorty’s, their cheesesteaks are damn tasty and legit. Pricey for a cheesesteak but if you’re gonna go in for a cheesesteak you should go in for one.

El Sabroso in the elevator shaft is probably the single best goat anywhere in Midtown, 2nding them for locational nowhereness to tastiness ratio.

  • you mean mind blowing?

  • FREA…..errr……..uhhh……..*sigh*…….moving on

barcelona? really? food there is overpriced and mediocre compared to what we have in nyc. the paella at socarrat and tapas at nai are both better than anything i had in barcelona. valencia and san sebastian, on the other hand, are amazing.

  • YOU DONT MESS WITH THE ZOHAN!!!

jeez rough crowd here. ok thanks for the rec on piccolo. never been for breakfast but will definitely try it. @kcijones001 I meant boggling not blowing. thank you. @mkim1206 & @Gate321 nice quips. there is background for the pose, it was taken about 1Y ago on my 25th bday weekend, I was really excited about flying to Barcelona which turned out to be my 1st international DJ gig and one of the best weekends ever. so maybe that explains the clenched fist & pose. as for the bag, I am a firm opponent of wheely suitcases/bags, I will not be caught dead with one. so that is why I always have a duffel when traveling. @vjchin yes I love the food in BCN. maybe you went to the wrong restaurants whilst you where there? anyways, I hope to make it to Valencia & San Sebastian in the short term, but haven’t been yet. @bullit smh.

    • dont shake your hummus too hard =X

    • “Firm opponent of wheely suitcases/bags”? Ah, attitude trumps common sense. OK. As for breakfast in the area, pickings are slim apart from the few mentioned above. Unless you want to be adventurous and wander down 8th a bit to White Castle! When I worked in the Times bldg I used to stop at the BK on 40th/7th for their tasty breakfast bites before they went upscale and wiped the breakfast menu of the good stuff.

When you say breakfast, I think pastries. The pastries at Financier at 6th and 48th are fantastic. And flan can be a breakfast food. It has eggs in it! And pears! Good coffee there as well.
