PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Michelle”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Michelle, a fashion designer who loves curly fries.

Name: Michelle

Age: 24

Occupation: Fashion Designer

Where in Midtown do you Work?: 37th & 8th

Favorite Kind of Food: Hands down, BBQ

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Pasta Salad, no idea why… maybe I think its a waste of pasta haha

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Sour cream apple pie from the Little Pie Company (43rd btw. 9+10th), Bulgoki from Kim’s Aunt Kitchen Cart (on 46th btw. 5+6th), Lobster BLT from Ed Brown in Foodparc (on 30th btw. 6+7th), Totto Ramen (on 52nd btw. 8+9th), Lamb Burger at the Breslin (on 29th btw. B’way+5th)

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Anytime I’m having one of “those” days I go to Go Go Curry (on 38th btw. 7+8th)

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? I actually went to In and Out Pizza to see if it really existed… it does! (Or, at least.. it did.)

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? I’d love to work in Venezuela so I could eat arepas anytime I wanted :)

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? I’d really like to know where to get curly fries in midtown

Got a curly fry rec for Michelle? Put it in the comments. And, as always, if you want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate) email editor@midtownlunch.com.

  • Bon Chon Chicken has good, if non-traditional, curly fries.

  • Hey, you’re right on my block.

Can’t speak for curly fries, but Frying Dutchmen does AMAZING regular and sweet potato fries.

Shachi’s Arepas on 35th and 8th is pretty damn good. I don’t have many other arepas against which to compare them but they’re really, really, really good.

can we expect everyone to be using fashion shots now??

  • FREAK OF THE WEEK

  • This is gonna sound weird, but there’s a generic deli that I get delivery from on Seamlessweb called Sherwood To Go (never actually been there and I’m not sure if they even have sit-down service). They have great cheap combos, and pretty good curly fries (and regular fries).

  • Even though (lol) you may have (hahaha) heard of it (lolzomghahaha), Primeburger on 51st makes really good curly fries (lolololomghahahahaha!).

  • Although everything else there is disgusting (depending on who you are – including OR excluding the scenery), the Hooters on 56th Street between 7th Avenue and Broadway actually serves up a nice curly fry. Make sure to order them well done – they are delish!

  • Way back in the day, there was a Peruvian chicken restaurant on 1st Avenue and (around) 90th street called El Pollo that had the best curly fries I’ve ever had. The chicken was also the best I’ve ever had incidentally. It closed over 10 years ago. Now, there appears to be 14 restaurants called El Pollo in New York City, but I have no idea whether any of them are affilliated. Anyone know?

  • Caracas Arepa Bar on 7th Street serves decent Venezuelan-style arepas.

  • why is pasta salad a waste of pasta?
