PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Katie”
Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Katie, an economic consultant with a sweet tooth- who hates cilantro and isn’t sold on the Street Sweets truck just yet.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Anything with cilantro
Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Favorite savory meal/Seamless dinner option: the Eggplant moussaka at Bread and Olive on 45th. Favorite sweet/overall meal- Waffle from Wafels and Dinges on Thursdays on 46th and 6th. Liege with nutella, spekuloos, whipped cream, sometimes dulce de leche to mix it up. Other favorite spots include: Treats Truck Fridays on 45th and 6th – I usually get a bag to “share” with friends after work but wind up enjoying it all as my personal lunch/afternoon snack. And I know there are judgers, but as a healthy option I also enjoy a salad from Cafe Europa. If you pay attention, it’s priced a lot better than most competitors. Finally, I’ve yet to try Two Bros’ Pizza on 46th btw 5th and 6th, and while I love Little Italy Pizza, Two Bros is next on the agenda- it’s hard to beat those prices!
“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Manhattan Cafe on 45th btw. 5+6th. The plethora of options and convenience of location often outweigh quality.
Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? Daisy May’s BBQ Cart (on 50th btw. 6+7th)
If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Maybe at NYU so I could eat at the Chick-fil-A in the food court. Or Italy. I could eat pizza with nocciola gelato for dessert twice a day (pastries for breakfast) for the rest of my life and be very very content.
Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? I want to know what people think about the Street Sweets truck! I tried it for the first time today (Monday) on 46th and 6th and was very disappointed. They only have four cookies on the menu (!!!) and I threw out half of my $2.25 chocolate walnut – this is very unlike me, I will eat half a dozen of almost any cookie. It’s the only thing I’ve tried though so I’m curious to hear other opinions. They also have savory options.

The McDonalds at the train station in Naples had Crocchette con Spinaci e Parmigiano Reggiano–deep fried spinach and cheese nuggets…delicious. Why can’t the Mickey Ds in the states have the good stuff?

Avoid the 2 Bros Pizza. It’s terrible plastic-like cardboard “pizza”.

My point. You have to have expectations going in. It’s a dollar for chrisssakes. It’s cheesy and crispy for one dollar, I call that a win.

Disagree. 2 Bros is a solid basic slice. (The one on 6th Ave seems to have improved, with more cheese and better sauce.) Hot fresh slices from the oven. OTOH, most slice joints just reheat cold slices that have been sitting out, with dry sauce and cheese that never recovers from being cold. Rather have a fresh 2Bros slice than a reheat from a “better” pizza place.

I’m right down the street from the 46th st 2 Bros, I think it’s pretty good. Been there a few times without issues.

I have to agree with Lou. i had two bros by port authority one night after a pretty long night of drinking (when pizza usually tastes best) and I didn’t like it. I guess for $1 you can’t expect much

I bought three slices from 45th st. (5th & 6th Ave). After eating two slices, my jaws hurt. I ate half of the third slice 15 minutes later. It tastes like cardboard (if it is cold).
Probably will go back, not anytime soon.

It’s pretty damn terrible pizza.
Seriously, if you want cheap pizza that is much better (still not awesome), but cheap and good, go to Naples 45 after 2pm when they drop the prices to 1.50

zigolinis is right by my job, always a long line. never had their pizza though. they used to have a summer BBQ but seem to have stopped. for cheap and good pizza downtown try grotto on new street.

I was very dissapointed in the Street Sweets Truck too. I thought their cookies tasted very processed and not very tasty… I usually just go to Two Little Red Hens Bakery on the UES after work for cupcakes or Bouchon Bakery at Columbus Circle for my dessert fixes.

If I’m going to pay a small fortune for a few macarons (which I did at Street Sweets, with great regret), it had better at least have more snob appeal (e.g. Bouchon Bakery or some shit like that).

I find the Street Sweets truck overrated and expensive for what they are offering. Much prefer the Treats Truck.
