Tri Tip Grill More Packed Than KFC?
We haven’t gotten too many reports from the three Midtown KFC locations, but the newly opened Tri Tip Grill in the Rock Center Concourse seems like the place to be today. From Lunch’er “skainich”
Very tasty sandwich! Although the wait was a bit long, I think we waited 10 minutes in the first line, and then 20 minutes with a beeper. The sandwich was very flavorful, and I think the original sandwich is the way to go. Almost made me forget about how necessary it is for us to get a Chik-fil-A in midtown, almost.
According to Brownie, the line has been out the door most of the day but they’re easing the pain with (delicious) free samples of steak! Lunch’er Richard hit the place up before the lunch rush. His “big buck with roadhouse onions” is after the jump…
Grilled onions and onion strings!? Nice.

If you saw the menu, then a lot of the Sandwiches/ Burgers are under $10. You will go over the $10 when your order the meal and pay taxes for it. Just get the sandwich/ burger then.

It took me a few minutes to figure out that the thing that looks like a new potato with onions on top is a sandwich.

I think I have to go here tomorrow. I learned about Buckhorn Grill and Beard Papa from the Apple developers at their conference in San Francisco. While I’m still weeping slightly for the loss of the cream puff counter at Cafe Zaiya, being mere blocks away from these meaty sandwiches could make up for it!

I was disappointed in the food, but I’m going to attribute it to the wait and try again in a couple weeks.

My only complaint is the melted cheddar hardened up by the time I got back to my desk, 4 blocks away. Other than that it was a big greasy delicious mess.

I grabbed lunch there yesterday, and the food was very tasty, but the wait was brutal. I had a Roadhouse Buck combo and I had the fried onions on the side. If I were to do it again, I’d probably get a platter as the meat is tough to eat on a roll, and I’d get fries or mashed potatos rather than the onions. Combo does push the meal over $10, but you can get a sammy on it’s own for $7-$7.50.
Definitely worth checking out, though waiting a couple weeks might give them time to ensure the operation is more efficient so the wait time will be less.

Ooh mama, that Bacon Cheddar Buck was even better than I remember it from SF. And the wait wasn’t bad either — but I was there at 11:15.
The menu sounds delicious, and that photo of the big buck looks like it’s right up my alley. Someone needs to try one of those burgers though, and give us a review on it. I see that they cook their meat medium, which is what I usually go for, so that’s assuring.
