A+ Thai Opens For Lunch Today

A+ Thai Place opens on 2nd Ave

A+ Thai is rolling out a $7.95 lunch today after opening over the weekend. Between 11:30 and 3:30, $7.95 gets you the entree only, but throw in another $2 if you want the appetizer-entree-drink combo. At first glance, menu items like the “Mega Ball dumplings” sound intriguing. Maybe we don’t need another pseudo-Southeast Asian place on the (far) East Side, but what we do need is a good one. Let us know how it is if you get there first.

Check out the lunch menu after the jump…

  • wow wow wow, this is a big news for me. I’ve always wanted a good (and cheap) thai place near my work. Hopefully this is a good one. Thank you!
Let me know if anyone has the lunch menu.

I”m also searching around for the menu, can’t seem to find it.

Actually surprised that the menu wasn’t posted with this entry… but the person writing the entry seems to have seen the menu somewhere…

  • Obligatory: “ZACH would have posted the menu!” ;^)

    ^yup… shame…

  • haha… Amy is putting the menu into the post as we speak. Come back in a few mins…

They’re handing out menus at the entrance/exit to the subway 53rd & 3rd station. Even the entree prices look pretty decent. I might give them a try tonight. When I passed by the place around 12:15, it didn’t look open yet.

  • Amy said they were slow to open today… she walked by a little while ago and they are definitely open

  • Anyone tried this place today? The menu looks nice! hopefully they are not too stingy with the portion.

I just called around 7 and they said they’re open and take all credit cards. I’m hopefully going to try them tonight.

  • I just came from there and it was very tasty. I had the Mega Ball (fried) and the Spicy Noodle with chicken. The portions were good, and the noodles had a nice kick to them (I like things spicy).

Peter (the owner?) was very kind and insisted I be brutally honest with him about my experience. If you can, check this place out!

I am writing this in between bites of the Pad Thai and (steamed) Mega Ball. The Mega Ball turns out to just be (3) shumai-like dumplings, which are good. The Pad Thai is also good and there is plenty of it, but what I really wanted was the Pumpkin Curry–I’m such a sucker for anything with Pumpkin in it–but they said they didn’t have it.

I’ll be back, but they better have my Pumpkin Curry! (Or if not, I could do the Pad Thai again.)

Also, they don’t take American Express. Which always makes me upset for some reason. But I won’t hold it against them.

I had dinner from there last night, so I can’t comment on portion size, but the quality was really good. I had the Phoenix (BBQ chicken & veggies) with the green papaya salad. Both had really good flavor. The missus had the Swimming Rama (sliced chicken with peanut sauce over steamed broccoli) wasn’t as good, but still tasty. I’m definitely going back for lunch.

P.S. – They’re still handing out menus at the 53rd and 3rd subway stop.

  • wow, thanks for the great review. Now, I can’t wait until I try this place. I hope their lunch is just as good. =)

I read this review and wanted to try A+ out for lunch. I did today and was left utterly disappointed.

Maybe it’s just the baby blues, but the staff and the kitchen weren’t able to handle today’s lunch crowd. It took 30 minutes to receive my soup(!) and ten more minutes to receive the dishes (nothing fancy – just friend rice and pad thai). Customers were starting to get restless. I even overheard a complaint of raw chicken in a dish from a couple tables over.

The food is nicely priced and actually decent, but definitely wasn’t worth the wait especially during our precious lunch hours.

Maybe today is one-off, but I truly hope they sort this out soon for their sake.
