HB Burger Offers Up Midtown Lunch Special

The awesome burger news just keeps on coming today. From HB Burger (on 43rd btw. B’way+6th): “This week only (July 13th through July 17th) from Noon to 5pm, get a beef cheeseburger with french fries, tator tots, or onion strings for $9.95. Limit one per customer, and you must mention Midtown Lunch to get the deal.” Take all the great reviews this place is getting, and combine it with my love of onions strings and tator tots, plus charge under $10 (the Midtown Lunch limit) and the writing is on the wall: I clearly need to try this place.

“not REALLY tator tots like the traditional tots, but mashed potato with string potato on the outside fried.”

What?? Excuse me for being a purest, but I have no idea what that is. String potato? Mashed insides? Someone needs to take a picture of this and report back.

  • Their menu says the tater tots are made with bacon and jalapeno jack. Tomorrow I’m on it.

Hehe..yeah, when I first put one in my mouth, it tasted different, but still very very very good :-)

Imagine a frozen hash brown pulled apart, with the small pieces of string potato free in one big pile. Then imagine a small dollop of mashed potato rolled around in that about the size of a tator tot and then deep fried. That’s what it seemed to be :-)

  • and where have the paragraphic lines come from?

    Jesus wept.

I always find it very awkward to mention a secret word to get a discount. Half the time, the server hasn’t heard of it and it establishes you as a cheapskate up front.

  • I agree with Wade and think restaurants know it as well but since you will only be saving about a dollar you might as well just order it without the code.

Speaking of onion strings, I just discovered fried shallot rings. In a word, awesome. Just sliver them and throw them into a shallow puddle of oil/butter. Be forewarned the high sugar content turns them from golden to black in a second, and don’t worry if they’re limp coming out of the pan, blot them on a paper towel and they crisp up like you wouldn’t believe. Fabulous with a steak or burgers.

When life thrusts 5 lbs of shallots into your lap you make lemonade.
