From one fellow greek to the next – we will never find a true “authentic gyro” in manhattan unless we jump on a plane a fly to greece…they just always taste better there…
but for a tip…
Red flame coffee house diner on 67 W 44th St (44th & 6th ) is tastier than some other frozen bland things that are served elsewhere….

@DocChuck, the closest thing I’ve had here that reminds me of gyros in Greece is the Shawarma at Mamouns. The meat is very similar. That’s why I’m interested in trying Adkeniz. The review leads me to believe it might be good.

@Dubya El: I tried the KFC Grilled Chicken. It’s not original recipe in any way. It’s looks like BBQ grilled chicken. I’m pretty cynical though. I didn’t see any grills in the kitchen. I wonder if the chicken comes with the grill marks already on it.

@Mamacita: I’ve seen that. It’s pretty funny.

@Harry, thank you for defending the honor of KFC original recipe. As much as I love Popeyes spicy fried chicken, there is something about the dripping spicy grease off a piece of an original recipe thigh or drumstrick that just can’t be beat.

Any opinions on the new KFC original recipe roasted chicken? I’ll try it but I anticipate being disappointed.

Indeed, you are aptly named, my friend. My wife’s laser hair removal salon could touch up your brows and take years off your appearance. You might even look 31 again!

I am,however, impressed by your culinary range and your distaste for tofu.

Just a note: it is neigh impossible to get outstanding, authentic Greek gyros ANYWHERE in the US, save Charleston or Mobile. You New Yawkers are not alone in this, sadly.
