I was there in the London location and I had a good positive opinion about the mozzarella bars and salad. At Obika, the tste was great and a nice atmosphere.

I went a few days ago shortly before lunch when it was empty. The counter guy was sullen with me. I ordered the croissant sandwich with mozzarella to go. A block later, as I bit into it, I realized he gave me the fontina and speck one. Feh. The speck’s texture was like a cross between taffy and wet fabric – yick. If I’m going to go eat sandwiches in this category better to go to Despana on Broome for a freshly-made Bocadillo that’s made with a smile.

I was gonna make a comment that ML is probably being paid to shill for this place since it’s been mentioned so often (and was obviously going to be too expensive or small to be a satisfying lunch)…but at least it can now be officially put to rest.

So it’s finally clear that Obika isn’t really a worthy ML candidate (i.e., a filling lunch for under $10)? I understand the initial excitement at the concept, but Obika failed to deliver. Does this mean that we can let go of this place and move on to other ‘real’ ML options? Seriously, there have been *12* separate ML entries on this place already! Way too many for a ML “fail” imo. Just sayin’….

that last one looks great and it looks like they’re using better bread than they did during opening week. i do <3 sullivan st bakery. but i still don’t think it’s worth it.
