The Philly Cheese Steak Place west of Times Square, used to be a Tony Luke's, sells Italian Fries that sound EXACTLY like what you describe. I had them 2-3 years ago. Tasted wonderful...then decided they weren't worth the heart attack to eat 'em again!

If Jami is talking about the Frying Pan that used to sit next to Chelsea Piers, that place is no more, sadly. I found out the hard way, by dragging several out-of-town friends all the way out there.

I just got back from San Fran, and visited the Gordon Biersch there. The garlic fries are good, and the beer is even better. NYC could definitely use a Gordon Biersch! and an In-N-Out!

The Frying Pan on pier 64 (the restaurant/bar on an old docked boat) has awesome fries that they season with old bay and then toss with fresh roasted garlic cloves. No parmesan but still damn good.
