I went to Lucky Sunday after reading the recommendation. I had the Vietnamese grilled beef with rice. It was not the worse Vietnamese food I've tasted, but it was definitely not good. The meat was sweet but okay, but after a few bites, the sweetness was too overwhelming. I felt like I was eating candied beef. Blech. The sauce that went with the meal was watered down as well. You could pay $1 less and get mediocre food from Saigon 48, but I'm boycotting that place ever since I found a cockroach in my meal.

Rob,

Tried Lucky Sunday's General Tso's today and it was awful. By far the worst General Tso's I've ever had. Thin, flimsy, slimey chicken, if you can even call it that, there were so many pieces of fried skin in there it was just awful. I won't be ordering from there again, I suggest you do the same.

Here's my review.

Roomie - stay away from the General Tso's chicken! I suppose it's true that it was never proven to be the cause for your hospitalization, but that's like saying that smoking has never been proven to cause cancer. Besides, Kee Kar Lau was always more dependable than Golden Light...

That's what I thought when I read "HK," but he probably means "Hell's Kitchen." Can't think of an superfluous, irreverent comment to add.

I think there's a China Gourmet down here on Broad/Stone Street, and it's super filthy expensive (like $4 for a dim sum dish. Of HAR GOW or whatever, I think it's crystal-shrimp dumpling? [Everything is a friggin dumpling at dim sum, so I try not to use their English names...]). Wonder if it's related.

And I like the dig at Americanized Chinese food haters =P

Zach,

Glad to hear you enjoyed the grub. You are spot on with the fried rice and gloppiness of the General Tso's sauce, those are by far the two weakest elements of the dish. I'm going to have to try Szechuan Gourment one of these days, I've heard a lot of good things. What's the go to meal there?

Clint,

On Delivery alone, China Gourment trumps Wu Liang Ye. Wu Liang Ye is too good to be eaten by delivery, it loses its luster. It's also way too pricey for my taste.

Rob,

Interesting, I'm definitely going to check out Lucky Sunday. Tune in to NYCFoodGuy.com in the near future for a review.
