Small Peace on Lexington btwn. 45th and 46th is a juice bar that also serves very delicious soups! It is something of a hidden secret, and all of the soups I've had there are superb (they do offer samples, so if you're not sure what soup you want they are very nice about giving you samples). Their lentil is actually really flavorful and delicious (hard to believe, I know), and the Butternut Squash and Apple is so fragrant it makes my coworkers jealous. I can't for sure vouch that they make their soups from scratch, but they definitely taste like it. They also started serving this pinkberry-esque plain frozen yogurt this past fall that will be great in the warmer months....

I'm currently eating the minestrone from the Daily Nosh cafe (inside 444 madison, b/w 49th & 50th). Flavorful, good veggies (not overcooked into mush), and pretty filling for $2.50. Plus, I love the scene down there...

The tomato, basil and mozzarella soup at Fashion Soup is my personal fave.

I'm not the biggest fan of overpriced chain soups either (I'm looking at you, Hale and Hearty...), but Cosi's Tomato Basil soup is excellent.

New Star Cafe on 7th between 39th and 40th also does a decent Korean soft tofu soup.

For chains, the daily soups at 'Wichcraft are somewhat hit or miss, but sometimes really good.

And, my go-to for soups on my block--Devon & Blakely gets their soups from the Daily Soup, and they are really good. I like the Chicken Pot Pie for winter comfort, but some other winners include the Jambalaya soup and the crab and corn chowder.

Ever since I saw bags of soup being poured into the tureens at Au Bon Pain, I have stayed away. That visit also happened to coincide with my purchase of "fly bread," a piece of bread with a fly baked into it.

A well kept secret in Midtown West, any soup from Cafe Ole (W54 and Tenth) is fantastic and well worth the extra walk.
