I do like the pizza from Two Boots, but lets get one thing straight... there is nothing, and I mean nothing creole or cajun about this place.

First of all, there is no such thing as creole or cajun pizza. The ingredients can lean that way (spicy, maybe some seafood) but folks down in Louisiana aren't lining up to eat seafood pizza. The most famous pizza (and possibly, the best pizza in America) can be found at Fleur De Lis Pizza in Baton Rouge, which has been serving Roman Pies for over 50 years. Their best seller (and worth the trip to Louisiana alone) is their "Round The World" pizza... which is loaded with everything (pepperoni, ground italian sausage, onions, etc) BUT seafood.

As far as the muffeleta, why hasn't anyone figured out that selling a real version would bring in some serious $$?

The pizza sauce definitely has cajun creole spices in it. So, the imagery of the boots is more accurate than was given credit. I think the corn meal crust is cajun creole too. I love the Tony Clifton slice, but its only good if its piping hot or room temp. NOT WARM!

speaking of Jezebel on the west side --- anyone know anything about "Piece of Chicken," the take-out joint that appears to be operating out of their kitchen (just around the corner on 45th st from Jezebel's 9th av entrance), selling pieces of fried chicken and fish, along with sides (mac and cheese, collard greens etc), for $1 each? Never had a chance to stop in..

I don't like American style pizza very much (you know the kind, with the rubbery "mozzarella" cheese, strangely dark/sweet sauce and mediocre crust), but I do enjoy the Bayou Beast from Two Boots! Tasty crust, decent quality cheese and good sauce - not to mention, some really cool topping combinations.
As for Dan's question about Cajun/Creole food in NY... I've heard some pretty good things about Jezebel on the west side. It's a little pricey, but supposedly decent. It's been a long time since I've gone to ACME, but I remember their food being tasty. New York Magazine's web site has a good selection of restaurants to check out (along with menus)!

I really don't like Two Boots. My workplace would always order from there when the company wanted to treat the staff, and I found the pizza foul. The excessive amount of cornmeal on the bottom is unacceptable. To me, anyway.

The "po' boy" at the Rock Center Two Boots was the worst sandwich I recall having eaten in my adulthood -- not just no olive spread, but dry, crumbly bread and disgusting meat -- I had to throw it away after a few bites, which is something I never do after spending $8 on a sandwich.

Actually the Two Boots on Ave. A opened in 1987 (according to twoboots.com). The one in Brooklyn was opened in 1989 (according to www.twobootsbrooklyn.com) and doesn't appear to have a connection (on-line anyway) to the chain in Manhattan. I wish the Manhattan Two Boots' had Oyster Po'Boys!!! The Park Slope restaurant Two Boots looks awesome... Does anyone know the connection between the Brooklyn Restaurant and the chain of Pizza places in Manhattan???

To call Two Boots a "Manhattan Pizza chain" is ignoring the fact that the chain got its start in Brooklyn:
Park Slope, to be precise.
The original Two Boots is a place where parents and young'uns can be nourished and entertained. I have always found their pizza to be acceptable and I am partial to their oyster po'boys. The oysters are plentiful, breaded and fried lightly in vegetable oil.
You get your choice of dressings. And Two Boots has a decent selection of beers on tap, including some N'Orleans and Texas brews.
